Summer 2008 Workshop Schedule

ITS workshops feature hands-on instruction along with an understanding of how the software or devices can be used in your course. Workshops are available at no cost to Texas A&M University faculty, teaching assistants, and instructional staff.

ITS workshops are held in 004 Heldenfels Hall in our state-of-the-art classroom unless otherwise noted. If workshop times do not fit your schedule, or if you need additional information, please contact Carol Henrichs, Assistant Director, at 862-3977 or its@tamu.edu.

This weeklong, 3-hours-per-day workshop is designed for instructors who want to develop their course content into a Vista course. Whether you are starting from scratch or working from existing Vista courses, this workshop will give you a good foundation for technology-mediated instruction.

Introduction to Podcasting (Podcasting 101)

Learn the basics of how to record audio presentations using best practices and how to include them in a RSS aggregator so students can subscribe to the feed.

Advanced Podcasting (Podcasting 202)

Preferred workshop prerequisites: Knowledge and experience in using Audacity and Camtasia in addition to completion of the Introduction to Podcasting workshop.

Learn how to easily record your screen and create podcasts using video, voiceovers, images, and PowerPoint presentations with Camtasia. Find the right equipment for making professional-quality podcasts, choose the most appropriate file format for your audience, and explore various options for distributing your podcasts, both on campus and beyond.

Introduction to Second Life

NOTE: Event moved to new location – Rudder Tower Room 701. Date and time remain the same.

ITS staff will provide a brief, hands-on demonstration of Second Life. We encourage instructors on campus who currently use Second Life in their curriculum to attend and share experiences and examples with the Texas A&M teaching community. In addition, we will discuss coordinating future Second Life User Group Meetings and purchasing an area specifically for the university within Second Life.

Centra: Introduction to eMeetings
Learn how to share presentations, websites and applications, present quizzes and surveys, and use breakout rooms in a real-time Web conferencing system. Use Centra to present to small or large classes and interact with students with voice over IP, video, and text and also record your presentations for asynchronous viewing.
