Dr. John August of
College of Veterinary Medicine
Dr. John August
is a professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine in the
Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Program at Texas A&M University.
He teaches the Canine and Feline Clinical Management and Clinical
Pathology and Parasitology I courses. He is joined by Noberto
Espitia, the Animal Clinic Supervisor and graduate student,
in teaching Clinical Pathology and Parasitology. Both of these
courses are taught by integrating face-to-face sessions, videoconference,
and an online component. Dr. August and Mr. Espitia are employing
TTVN and the web environment to support continuing education
courses for professional veterinarians. They are also working
in partnership with Palo Alto College to provide quality instruction
for the individuals that are enrolled in the Veterinary Technician
Program.

Dr.
Bruce Herbert of the College of Geosciences
Dr. Bruce Herbert
has been using the Internet to transform a number of his
own classes. Dr. Herbert has received a National Science
Foundation grant to further develop his Web-based introductory
course, Geo 101. Dr. Herbert thinks the new Geology 101
will be more fun, as well as more effective.

Dr.
W. R. Klemm from the College of Veterinary Medicine
Along with
his research on brainstem mechanisms of behavior, alcohol,
learning/memory, chemical signals, human cognition and
EEG, Dr. Klemm has done extensive studies on collaborative
learning and distance education. Together with Dr. Snell,
he is the innovator of the hypertext-based on-line conferencing
system, called FORUMĘ.

Dr. Jackie Palmer of Department of
English
Dr. Jackie Palmer
is the Associate Director of the Writing Programs Office
in the English Department at Texas A&M University. The Writing
Programs Office administers the department's service undergraduate
writing courses, English 104, 203, and 210. The goals of
the Writing Program are twofold: to ensure the quality of
undergraduate writing courses and to prepare graduate students
for professions as university teachers. Dr. Palmer teaches
scientific and technical writing and editing and is currently
involved in training graduate assistants to integrate technology
in teaching their undergraduate technical writing courses.

Dr.
Mike Speed and Dr. James Hardin of the Department of Statistics
Dr.
Mike Speed,
Associate Dean for Technology-Mediated Instruction for College
of Science and Dr. James Hardin use streaming video in distance
education courses. They also conduct seminars for TAMU faculty
introducing new streaming technologies.
